District Seven Appointment Remarks by Tim Fulton
Delivered to Columbus City Council on December 18, 2024
Good evening, President Hardin, President Pro Tem Dorans, council members, and fellow Columbusites,
My name is Tim Fulton, and I am honored to be considered to represent District 7 on City Council.
During the last election, I was privileged to interview each of you as you campaigned for your seats. Those conversations gave me a deeper appreciation for your commitment to Columbus and the work ahead. If given the chance, I’ll bring that same focus and dedication that you all have to this role.
As a lifelong resident of Columbus who lives, works, and raises a daughter here, I care deeply about the future of this city. Columbus is growing rapidly, and while that growth is exciting, it brings important challenges we must address thoughtfully.
District 7 in particular reflects what I love about this city: its diversity, swagger, and potential. It also highlights the most important issues we need to tackle: affordable housing that keeps families stable, infrastructure that keeps pace with development, and public safety that builds trust across communities. These aren’t just district issues—they’re Columbus issues. Addressing them thoughtfully is how we ensure growth that is inclusive and equitable.
In my civic work, I’ve focused on making complex issues more accessible and fostering conversations about how our city can better serve its residents. Whether helping people understand significant changes in governance or creating platforms to elevate community voices, my work has been rooted in transparency, engagement, and action. These experiences have prepared me to advocate for residents and tackle the challenges that come with growth, ensuring they are met with solutions that benefit everyone.
I believe in leadership that amplifies every voice. Representation matters; it shapes whose priorities are elevated and whose needs are met. While I may not bring the same lived experience as Councilwoman Favor, I will honor her legacy by listening, learning, and ensuring that every resident of this district feels valued and represented.
This is a one-year appointment, and I will not be running for re-election. My focus will be on laying the groundwork for progress, engaging with the community, and ensuring a smooth transition to the next leader chosen by the voters. I want to be a steward for a Columbus where residents feel connected to their local government and where transparency strengthens trust and collaboration.
Columbus has immense potential and it is no stranger to challenges. It is the Columbus Way to roll up our sleeves, find solutions, and move forward together. I’m ready to get to work.
Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your dedication to our city’s future. It would be an honor to serve with you in this role and help build a stronger, more inclusive Columbus.
